The Shield’s mission is to provide emergency funds and resources to the families of officers in southwest Ohio who are critically injured or killed in the line of duty.
An officer had been killed in the line of duty, and his family had no means of producing the funds needed to cover their expenses – travel, lodging, and the added expense of missing work. Sensing a duty to care for their own, the Hamilton County Chiefs of Police began a “100 club,” pooling their own money together to support the family.
Since then, the “100 Club” has grown into what is now The Shield, its base of support expanding from the chiefs through the police force and out into the local community. Our goal is to always be able to provide as much money for the families as they need as soon as they need it. To do that, we hope to build up a reserve of funds that will both guarantee enough resources for every situation and help us expand to reach even more officers and their families in need.
