The organization was started after a Cincinnati officer had been killed in the line of duty and his family had no means of producing the funds needed to cover the living and funeral-related expenses. Sensing a duty to care for their own, the Chiefs of Police in Hamilton County began a “100 club,” pooling their own money together to support the family.
Since then, the “100 Club” has grown into what is now The Shield, its base of support expanding from the chiefs through the police force and out into the local community. Our goal remains the same, to always provide the families of critically injured or fallen Officers with the financial and emotional support they need. Through the generous donations of police officers, corporations and the public, The Shield has been able to help many officers and their families since its inception.
